What the Sparrow Said

“Breaks new ground in form and structure."

— Theatre is Easy

What can I say about this play … it changed everything for me. I wrote it very quickly but much of the dialogue had been drafted over months in short exercises and prompts through the beginning of my grad school work under my teacher, Chuck Mee, in 2009.

When director Shannon Fillion, actors Matt Hurley and Blaze Mancillas, and dramaturgs Ellen Mullen and Jay Jaski presented it in Anne Bogart’s class for the first time in spring 2010 - just as a reading - it felt like the world opened for me, and that, at that moment - I was officially, finally - a playwright.

The cast and director have only changed once since that first reading - in 2011 (for the 2011 Fringe Festival, under the director Jenna Worsham). In every other performance and iteration since its first reading, our original team has been the same.

And now, it is a short film. All the details can be found here.
