Convention is a massive project in every way and far from over. It is the zenith of my decade-long collaboration with director Shannon Fillion and the largest demonstration of SWS to date.

It’s the 1944 Democratic National Convention, arguably the birth of the modern Democratic Party. On the eve of his fourth term as President, FDR looked doomed to die and over the course of three days that have been buried by history, the moderate and progressive delegates waged trench warfare over the Vice Presidential Nomination.

This is a huge cast, with 28 principal characters and 14 extras, staged partly immersive so that you are thrust into the action from moment one, and, depending on where you choose to sit, privy to different arcs and conversations that add to the final puzzle of the convention’s election.

The show was developed at the Atlantic Acting School at the historic Linda Gross Theater in 2017 and 2018. Our team’s first major production was in 2019 at the Irondale Theater Center.

It is the most theatrical story I’ve ever written. My ideas for how it can evolve for the stage continue to bubble up. Its relevance couldn’t be more urgent.

Check out this awesome review from the production. And more, here.
